On the 4th of September, 2019, the D.Y. Patil School of Nursing held a Departmental Conference on “Gastrointestinal Emergencies”. The objective was that by the end of the conference the students would be able to administer appropriate nursing care to the patients with Gastrointestinal Emergencies.
It was organized by Ms. Charisma Chandekar under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Mrs. Rita Lakhani. It was a half day conference that convened at the Pushpanjali Auditorium from 11:00 am to 4:15 pm.
The beneficiaries of the program were the students of 2nd& 3rd year B.Sc. Nursing, 1st year P.B.B.Sc. Nursing and 1st and 2nd year M.Sc. Nursing. The total number of students that attended the conference were 120.
The program started with the lamp lighting ceremony by the Principal and Faculty of the Department of Medical Surgical Nursing. It was followed by these insightful and informative lectures – Gastritis by Ms. Charisma, Peptic Ulcer Disease by Prof. Dr. Mrs. Rita Lakhani, Intestinal Obstruction by Ms. Pooja, Inflammatory Bowel Disease by Ms. Charisma and GI bleeding by Ms. Sigymol.
The topics covered spanned the Etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic evaluations, the medical and surgical management and Nursing Management areas of Gastrointestinal Emergencies with an emphasis on The Nursing Process. The teachings were well received by the students and it was an overall success in terms of organization, quality of the topics covered and their learning value for the students.
