The School of Nursing along with the School of Medicine of the DY Patil Deemed to be University, in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) conducted a twoday state level conference on 15th and 16th of December 2016 on a much needed focus area in Mumbai. i.e., Disaster Management.
The objective of the training program was to create awareness and facilitate disaster preparedness.
Dr. Priyadarshini Patil Cholera, a Trustee, of D Y Patil Group graced the occasion. The program began with the Principal of D Y Patil School of Nursing, Dr. Mrs. Swati. V. Kambli unfolding the theme. The Chief Guest Dr. Ramling Mali the President of Maharashtra Nursing Council emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness.
The two day long sessions were packed with lectures, interactions and demonstration on various aspects of disaster and its management including basics of disaster, Hospital Disaster Management plan and Evacuation drill. Types of fire and methods of extinguishing them were demonstrated live and the enthusiasm of the participants was witnessed till the last session of the conference. The other topics dealt were handling mass casualty, Triage and Emergency Medical care including Cardio Pulmonary and Cerebral Resuscitation.The Speakers were Mr. Rajendra Lokende, CRS, DMU and CCRS, Mr. Brahmadandi, DMU and CCRS, Mrs. Priya John, Associate Professor, D Y Patil School of Nursing, Nerul and Dr. (Mrs.) Deepali Rajpal, Prof Emergency Medicine, D Y Patil School of Medicine. The faculty made the sessions highly practical and relevant by engaging the participants in various ground aspects of disaster management which was an eye opener for the delegates.Trained in using fire extinguishers, transporting and rescuing casualties during emergencies were also given during the sessions.
We had 11 participants from the faculties of DYPSON. The whole program was a memorable occasion for all who participated.
Outcome:
All the participants got good knowledge on how to manage a disaster situation
