1. PRODUCT DESIGN
Good design is actually a lot harder to notice than poor design, in part because good designs fit our needs so well that the design is invisible, serving us without drawing attention to itself. Bad design, on the other hand, screams out its inadequacies, making itself very noticeable.
This course is intended to be enjoyable as well as informative. Information about everyday people, technical people, designers and non‐designers and knowledge about the way they do things; why they do things in specific manner and how it shapes their life around few things which becomes essential part of their life unless something comes up through innovation which is incremental i.e. upgradation or completely radical i.e. new.
The goal is to turn participants into great observers of the absurd, of the poor design that gives rise to so many of the problems of modern life, especially of modern technology. It will also turn them into observers of the good, of the ways in which thoughtful designers have worked to make our lives easier and smoother.
2. UNIVERSAL DESIGN AND ACCESSIBILITY
Over one billion people with disability face physical, social, economic and attitudinal barriers that exclude them to participate as equal to other members of society. People with disabilities lack equal access to basic resources, such as education, employment, healthcare and social systems.
People of diverse abilities should be able to use buildings and places comfortably and safely, as far as possible without special assistance. They should be able to find their way easily, understand how to use building facilities. An environment that is friendly for the differently abled people should be a space that allows free and safe movement function and access with dignity and independence.
3. VALUATION FOR REAL ESTATE PROPERTIES
An estimation of the worth of something (dictionary meaning)
Valuation is the process of determining the current worth of an asset. The elective mentions an asset to be a Real Estate.
In finance, valuation is the process of determining the present value (PV) of an asset.
Valuation is an exercise falling within the domain of art, economics as well as law. Valuation really concerns itself with all species of legal interests arising out of land and building which are exchanged for money and therefore entails the phenomena of exchange, scarcity and choice that characterize a market in the economic sense of the term.
Property is purchased both for use and as investment; but in both cases the purchaser measures the expected return or benefits to be received from the property against the cost outlay. The valuer's task is to express these benefits in money terms and to interpret the relationship between cost and benefit as a rate of return, thus allowing the investor to make a choice between.
4. INNOVATIVE BUILDING MATERIALS
Innovative construction materials are materials which are advanced to the traditional construction materials. Thus, traditional materials are used in a different manner or with some additives to improve properties of traditional material in a composite form. Also due to increasing awareness for the environment it has become imperative to use eco friendly material. At the same time such material should be durable, consistent in quality, economical in use, easy to work with & aesthetically acceptable.
The Impact of the industrial revolution gave rise to new innovative materials. These materials were inexpensive, mass produced, locally available and flexible to use in different forms. The aim of this elective is to enlighten the adaptability of local materials in an innovative manner for use in construction. This elective will cover modern Innovative building materials which are manufactured from recycled reused waste material like slag sand, agricultural waste, industrial waste etc. In addition, use of help to reduce adverse impact on the environment, indirectly reducing construction waste and cost.
5. OFFICE MANAGEMENT
Architecture students are required to be well equipped with the necessary skills to establish their own architectural firms and work on their own projects. This course will help them understand the importance of office management for the same.
URBAN ABSTRACT(For M.Arch)
Cities are magical, ecstatic expressions of feelings driven by physical manifestation of spaces. We are always attached to these spaces through various narratives and if these spaces cease to exist then our spatial comprehension would too become obsolete. Narratives derive meaning from our predetermined, typically accepted social, cultural and economic tentacles. Thus this course intends to consolidate the abstract of any given composition to understand the primary parameters that drive any spatial fixtures.
